Guest-facing staff cannot shout across a lobby, and they cannot stand at a desk waiting for a phone to be answered. Housekeeping needs engineering, engineering needs the front desk, valet needs to know a guest is on their way down, and none of it should be visible to a guest. Most properties end up with a mix: a handful of old radios that cover part of the building, personal phones for everything else, and a front desk that becomes the switchboard for every request. Basements, plant rooms, parking garages and back-of-house corridors are exactly where staff work and exactly where the old radios stop reaching. The result is a request that takes three handoffs, a guest waiting, and one department blaming another.

How the channels are set up
We set up a channel for each department, so housekeeping is not listening to valet traffic all day and engineering only hears work that concerns them, plus a management channel that reaches every head of department at once. Discreet earpieces keep all of it out of guest earshot. Because the radios work over the cell network, coverage extends through basements, parking garages and outbuildings that an on-site antenna struggled with, and it carries to a second property if you run more than one. Channels can also be presented to your existing phone system, so reception reaches a housekeeper from the desk phone as if dialing an extension. Radios arrive labeled by department, so a new starter picks one up and is on the right channel without a briefing.

Will guests hear the radio traffic?
Not if staff wear an earpiece, which is how we normally supply hospitality accounts. Audio goes to the earpiece rather than a speaker, so a conversation between housekeeping and engineering stays between them.
Do these work in basements and parking garages?
Usually better than the radios they replace, because coverage comes from the cell network rather than an antenna on the roof. Deeply shielded plant rooms and some underground levels can still be weak, so we check your specific property before you order.
Can reception reach staff from the desk phone?
Yes. Channels can be presented to your existing phone system as extensions, so reception dials a number and the right department answers on a handheld. The front desk does not need a radio of its own to reach the floor.
Can each department have its own channel?
Yes, and it is how we set hospitality accounts up. Housekeeping, engineering, valet and front desk each get a channel, with a management channel running across all of them.
What about seasonal staff?
Adding and removing users is part of the managed service, so a seasonal intake does not mean buying hardware you only need for four months. Short-term rental is also an option when the peak is brief.
