Managed Zello vs Verizon Push to Talk Plus: who does the work
Verizon Push to Talk Plus has strong dispatch and LMR options, and no price on its product page. Here is how it compares with Managed Zello.
Integrated Radio Team
·

Verizon Push to Talk Plus is a solid choice for a company with staff to administer it, and we still recommend Managed Zello for most US operations teams. Verizon sells a capable app, dispatch console and add-on ladder, with no price on the product page. Managed Zello is fully managed by Integrated Radio, with full enterprise MDM on every device and multi-carrier LTE coverage, SIM and data plan included, at a published price per user. Integrated Radio sells Managed Zello, so read this as an informed opinion from a seller.

Getting a number out of Verizon
The PTT+ product page sends you to devices, live chat or a sales call, and it shows no monthly price. Verizon’s business plans page lists My Biz Plan at $65 per line with Auto Pay and doesn’t mention PTT+, so ask which plans qualify before you build a budget.
The clearest public numbers we found are government rates. Verizon’s Q4 2026 NASPO ValuePoint price list shows a PTT+ only plan at $19.99, an inter-carrier license at $3.75 and a Windows dispatch license at $22.50. Those rates are for eligible public entities, so a private company should not expect them.
Managed Zello’s pricing is on the page. Core is $24.95, Plus is $34.95, and hardware is separate unless you enroll compatible devices you own. There is no minimum and no lock-in.
The add-on ladder
Base PTT+ handles up to 250 people in a conversation and broadcasts to 500. Verizon then offers two optional packages. Group Advanced scales to 3,000 team members with location-based grouping and urgent notifications. Group Command adds remote monitoring of signal strength and battery, and listening to specific conversations remotely.
That design is reasonable for large fleets. It also means your feature set, and your bill, depends on which package each line and dispatcher carries. Zello Work on Core includes unlimited channels, real-time location, status and battery, and the Management Console. Core versus Plus comes down to one question. Do you need the AI tools, the archive and Emergency Alerts? Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems.
Dispatch, and who runs it
Dispatch is where Verizon has put real effort. The Dispatch User Guide describes PTT calling, fleet location, messaging, video streaming, user monitoring, geofencing, location history, and area talkgroups in a browser console. If your dispatchers need that depth, take it seriously.
Zello Dispatch Hub is a desktop app for PC and Mac at $19.95 per dispatcher. It has a shared call queue and dispatch analytics on both plans, and transcription and Emergency Alerts on Plus.
The bigger difference is who keeps it running. On PTT+, an administrator creates dispatch accounts, builds talkgroups and manages contacts through Verizon’s tools. Verizon’s support hub is full of how-to articles for that person. With Managed Zello, we design the channels, provision users, set naming standards and roles, and handle moves, adds and changes. If someone leaves on Friday, you send us a note.
Existing Verizon customers should read one more page. Its migration article says that after moving from Desktop Dispatch to Web Dispatch, the user can no longer use the desktop app, and local groups, historical logs and call recordings aren’t available unless archived with the utility provided.
Carrier choice is broader than the name suggests
Some buyers assume PTT+ only works for Verizon lines. Verizon’s own FAQ says the application “can work on devices connected to other carrier networks,” and the support hub describes use on Verizon’s network or over Wi-Fi. The NASPO list carries inter-carrier licenses, so this is a real product option.
Verizon’s product specification from December 2023 fills in the detail. A cross-carrier user runs over the data plan on their device, charged by their own carrier. The administrator assigns a user ID and generates a temporary password, and service is described as “best effort.”
So a mixed fleet is possible on PTT+, with you holding the other carrier’s contract and SIMs. Managed Zello takes that off your desk. Multi-carrier LTE coverage comes with one SIM and data plan that we activate and manage. We won’t promise coverage everywhere, and each quote starts with a free coverage check of your sites. Our guide to nationwide coverage claims shows what to ask any vendor.
Devices and MDM
Verizon’s page features the Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro, Sonim XP Pro 5G and Kyocera DuraXV Extreme+, along with the Galaxy Tab Active5, Pixel 10 Pro, iPhone 17 and iPad A16. That is a good rugged and mainstream mix, and the XCover7 Pro and Sonim XP Pro are also on our product list alongside Inrico and Telox radio-style handsets.
Verizon’s specification says the app can be preconfigured through an MDM file, so PTT+ can live inside MDM you already run. The product page doesn’t list MDM as part of the service. Managed Zello includes enrollment and policies, app controls, Wi-Fi configuration, a push-to-talk key mapped per device, and remote lock, wipe and locate. Devices arrive charged, labeled and signed in.
LMR interoperability
Verizon says PTT+ connects LMRs, smartphones and tablets onto a single channel. Its specification lists P25 through ISSI, CSSI consoles, and Radio over IP. That is a strong list for agencies and utilities with P25 systems.
Zello Work connects to traditional radios through a radio gateway, with gateway hardware scoped per site and quoted separately. If you just want to keep existing radios talking to new handsets, read our post on connecting legacy two-way radios first.
When Verizon Push to Talk Plus might fit better
Your lines are already on Verizon and you have an administrator with time for the tools.
You need P25 interop through ISSI or CSSI.
Dispatchers rely on geofencing, video streaming or remote monitoring from one console.
You are a public safety agency evaluating Verizon’s Group First Response. Zello is not a replacement for a public-safety primary radio system.
Our recommendation
We recommend Managed Zello Core at $24.95 per user per month for most field teams who want live voice, channels, location and someone else doing the admin. Move up to Managed Zello Plus at $34.95 if you need Transcription, Translations, the Message Vault archive or breadcrumb history. Add Dispatch Hub at $19.95 per dispatcher if you have a desk. FAQ
How much does Verizon Push to Talk Plus cost?
Verizon’s product page doesn’t show a price, so ask for a quote. Its Q4 2026 NASPO list shows a $19.99 PTT+ only plan for eligible public entities, and private company pricing may differ.
