Managed Zello vs AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk: the real cost
AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk starts at $5 per user on top of a plan. Here is what that buys, who runs it, and when Managed Zello is the better call.
Integrated Radio Team
·

For most US operations teams, we recommend Managed Zello over AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk. AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk is a capable service with published rates from $5 per user, and that $5 sits on top of a wireless plan while your own administrator runs it. Managed Zello is fully managed by Integrated Radio, with full enterprise MDM on every device and multi-carrier LTE coverage, SIM and data plan included, for one per-user price. Integrated Radio sells Managed Zello, so weigh our opinion with that in mind.

What the $5 buys
AT&T deserves credit here. It publishes its rates, so you can build the stack yourself. The product page lists Standard from $5 per user and Advanced from $20. AT&T’s service guide says those add-ons require a qualified AT&T wireless voice plan, which you pay for separately.
Advanced is where emergency calling, user check, user enable and disable, discreet listening and LMR interoperability live. There is also an EPTT-only option on select devices, with no cellular calling or data browsing. AT&T’s 2023 product brief lists that plan at $30 for feature phones, and $30 for a smartphone license on a data-only plan.
Managed Zello prices the whole line in one number. Core at $24.95 includes the managed Zello network, the MDM, the SIM and the data plan. If you want one rugged smartphone for push-to-talk and regular calls, Managed Zello plus Unlimited Talk, Text and Data is $64.95 with Core or $74.95 with Plus. That bundle applies to rugged smartphones only, not two-way radios.
Who does the setup and the admin
AT&T gives you a good tool. The Corporate Administration Tool is a web portal for profiles, contacts, talkgroups, permissions and interop connections, and changes push to devices automatically. Someone at your company still has to do the work. AT&T’s guide also makes the CAT administrator responsible for onboarding dispatchers and creating dispatch talkgroups.
With Managed Zello, that job moves to us. We handle channel design, user provisioning and naming standards, roles and permissions, and every move, add and change after go-live. Devices arrive charged, labeled and signed in to Zello with your channels. Your team presses the button and gets to work.
MDM is the gap to ask about
Device control is a different job from talkgroup control. EPTT Advanced can disable a user’s access to push-to-talk and messaging, which is useful and limited to the service itself. The EPTT plan table and service guide we reviewed don’t list device management as part of the service, so ask AT&T what it would add and what it would cost.
Every Managed Zello device is enrolled in enterprise MDM. That covers enrollment and policies, app controls, Wi-Fi configuration, a push-to-talk key mapped per device, and remote lock, wipe and locate. A lost radio is a support ticket for us rather than a project for your IT team.
Coverage and carrier choice
EPTT does not stop at the AT&T network. It runs over Wi-Fi, and AT&T sells a $10 Wi-Fi-only license and a $10 Cross Carrier license that “allows EPTT on devices with SIMs from other carriers.” Both still appear on AT&T’s August 2026 NASPO contract grid.
Two details matter if you plan to lean on that. You buy and manage the other carrier’s SIM and data plan, and its data is billed by that carrier. AT&T’s service guide also says it is unable to provide troubleshooting or configuration help for third-party network connections, beyond verifying connectivity to its own network and the service.
Managed Zello includes multi-carrier LTE coverage, with one SIM and data plan that we activate and manage. Coverage depends on the sites you operate, so every quote starts with a free coverage check. Our post on what nationwide coverage actually means explains how to read those claims from any vendor.
Devices, dispatch and radio links
AT&T’s certified device portfolio is broad. It covers iPhone, iPad, Pixel, Samsung including XCover7 Pro, Sonim XP5plus, XP3plus 5G, XP10 and XP PRO, Siyata SD7, CrossCall P6 and Zebra. The service guide says use of non-certified devices is not fully supported. We did not see Inrico or Telox on that list. We sell Inrico T640A, T522A, S380 and TM-7Plus, Telox TE320 and M3, Sonim XP5plus and XP Pro, and the Galaxy XCover7 Pro, or you can enroll compatible devices you own.
For dispatch, AT&T’s optional Web Dispatch Solution offers a map view, geofences, and location and role-based talkgroups. Zello Dispatch Hub is a desktop app for PC and Mac with a shared call queue and dispatch analytics on both plans. Transcription and Emergency Alerts need Plus.
Radio links are AT&T’s strong suit, and they cost real money. EPTT supports RoIP, ISSI and CSSI. The service guide lists one-time site licenses of $2,500 for RoIP and $7,500 for ISSI or CSSI, and you supply the third-party equipment and secure connectivity. Managed Zello connects traditional radios through a radio gateway, scoped per site and quoted separately. On developer tools, AT&T describes a suite of APIs for public service apps and consoles, and Zello Work has APIs and SDKs too.
When AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk might fit better
You already run many AT&T lines, with an in-house admin who has time for the CAT.
You need P25 interoperability over ISSI or CSSI with an existing LMR system.
Your security review asks for FIPS 140-2 compliance, which AT&T states for its EPTT application.
You are a public safety agency looking at FirstNet Rapid Response. Our post on public safety PTT platforms covers that decision. Zello is not a replacement for a public-safety primary radio system.
Our recommendation
We think most teams should start with Managed Zello Core at $24.95 per user per month. It suits crews who need live voice, unlimited channels, texts, photos, real-time location and a team that handles the admin.
Choose Managed Zello Plus at $34.95 if you need Transcription, Translations, the Message Vault archive, historical breadcrumb tracking or Emergency Alerts with location. Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems. Add Dispatch Hub at $19.95 per dispatcher on either plan. Request a quote and we’ll start with a free coverage check of your sites.
FAQ
How much does AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk cost?
AT&T’s product page lists Standard from $5 per user per month and Advanced from $20. Those are add-ons to a qualifying plan, and taxes and fees are extra.
Do I need an AT&T voice and data plan for EPTT?
Not always. AT&T offers an EPTT-only option on select devices, with no cellular calling or data browsing. The $5 add-on requires a qualified AT&T wireless voice plan.
Does AT&T EPTT work on Verizon or T-Mobile phones?
Yes, with a Cross Carrier license that AT&T lists at $10 per month. You supply the other carrier’s SIM and data plan, and AT&T limits its support for third-party network connections.
Is Managed Zello cheaper than AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk?
It depends on what you count. The AT&T add-on is cheaper on its own, while Managed Zello Core at $24.95 also includes the SIM, data plan, MDM and administration.
Can AT&T EPTT or Managed Zello connect to our two-way radios?
Both can. AT&T offers LMR interoperability on Advanced with published site license fees and customer-supplied equipment. Managed Zello uses a radio gateway scoped per site and quoted separately.
