Integrated Radio comparison cover: Managed Zello vs ESChat: which fits a business team?

Managed Zello vs ESChat comes down to who you are. ESChat is built around government-grade security, with FedRAMP certification and deep P25 links, and it is a strong choice for agencies. For a private business team that wants push-to-talk handled for them, we recommend Managed Zello. It is Zello Work fully managed by Integrated Radio, with full enterprise MDM on every device and multi-carrier LTE coverage, SIM and data plan included. ESChat’s price is real, and it buys a specific thing

ESChat deserves credit here. It publishes its prices, which few push-to-talk vendors do. The commercial cloud plan is $5.99 per user per month with no contract, or $64.69 per year, and it includes secure push-to-talk, group messaging and live location.

That is well under Managed Zello Core at $24.95, because it buys the app alone. It makes sense if you already have the phones, the data plans and someone to run it.

The question is what else you would be buying and doing yourself. Managed Zello’s fee also covers a multi-carrier SIM and data plan, enterprise MDM, and the admin work. So price ESChat with your data plans, your device management tool and your staff time included, then compare the totals.

Who does the setup and the admin

ESChat is built for customer administrators. Its brochure lists complete platform management for customer administrators, and it offers enterprise administration through a web interface. Service can be active within minutes of ordering, and ESChat offers a free 30-day trial.

With Managed Zello, Integrated Radio does channel design and setup, user provisioning and naming standards, roles and permissions, moves, adds and changes, and ongoing administration. Devices arrive charged, labeled and signed in to Zello with your channels. For an ops manager with no radio person on staff, this is usually the deciding factor. See how Managed Zello works for the full list.

MDM and how devices are controlled

Enterprise MDM comes with every Managed Zello plan. We handle enrollment and policies, app controls and Wi-Fi configuration, the push-to-talk key mapped per device, and remote lock, wipe and locate.

ESChat’s pricing and recommended-device pages do not describe an MDM service, so ask them how lost phones and app lockdown would be handled. Many companies already run their own MDM, and that may fill the gap for you. If you do not have one, count it as a separate line in your budget.

Coverage and carrier choice

ESChat’s cross-carrier design is a genuine strength. It runs on and across wireless carriers with no gateways or extra fees between them. Its brochure also lists priority and preemption (QPP) today for FirstNet, Verizon, T-Mobile and UScellular subscribers, plus satellite connectivity options.

The trade-off is that the app rides on whatever service you bring. With Managed Zello, the multi-carrier SIM and data plan come with the service, and we handle activation and management. FCC data shows 99.6% of Americans live where at least one mobile network offers 4G LTE, but what matters is your sites. Every quote starts with a free coverage check.

Devices

ESChat recommends Android phones such as the Sonim XP10, Samsung XCover 6 Pro, Kyocera DuraForce and Motorola Evolve, plus iPhones, iPads and IoT radios like the Siyata SD7 and Diga-Talk 8051. The price list we read covers the service, so budget for devices separately.

Managed Zello works on iOS, Android, PC and Mac, and our store sells radios and rugged phones from Inrico, Telox, Sonim and Samsung. Radios start at $199, or you can enroll compatible devices you own. Rugged smartphones can also bundle unlimited talk, text and data, at $64.95 with Core or $74.95 with Plus.

Dispatch

ESChat gives you several paths. Its Windows PC client is a free download on a standard license, and ESChat says its features are limited compared with a true dispatch console. For a full console, it partners with CSS Mindshare and integrates with systems such as Zetron ACOM and Avtec Scout.

Zello Dispatch Hub is simpler to buy. It is a desktop app for PC and Mac at $19.95 per dispatcher per month, with a shared call queue and dispatch analytics on both plans. Transcription and Emergency Alerts need Plus, and Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems.

Interoperability is ESChat’s home turf

If you have a P25 or DMR system to tie in, ESChat goes deep. It publishes wireline options using P25 ISSI and DMR AIS, along with gateway-based RoIP for other radio systems, and key management for encrypted P25.

Those links carry published fees. On commercial cloud, the base ISSI or AIS package is $1,800 per year, and setup is $3,500, with bearer fees on top. A required VPN to ESChat’s cloud adds $3,600 per year plus $3,000 setup. That is fair pricing for what it does, and most private businesses do not need it.

Most business teams with analog or DMR radios need something simpler. Zello Work connects through a radio gateway, which we scope per site and quote separately. Start with our radio interoperability page. Zello Work also has Crosslink for talking with outside organizations.

Security and compliance

ESChat carries FedRAMP Certified, GovRAMP Authorized, TX-RAMP Certified and FirstNet Certified designations, and it lists DISA approval for US military operational use. It also supports single sign-on through OAuth 2.0 and offers private cloud or on-premise hosting.

Zello holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 and is GDPR compliant. Core and Plus include a private network with encryption and two-factor authentication. HIPAA support, SSO and on-premise servers belong to Zello Enterprise, available on request, and they are not part of Core or Plus.

When ESChat might fit better

  • You are a government agency or contractor that needs FedRAMP, GovRAMP or TX-RAMP.

  • You need P25 ISSI or DMR AIS wireline links, including encrypted P25.

  • You are a first responder agency that wants broadband push-to-talk alongside your LMR. Zello is not a replacement for a public-safety primary radio system.

  • You have your own phones, plans, MDM and admin staff, and want the lowest list price per seat.

  • You need SSO or on-premise hosting, which ESChat lists and Core and Plus do not include.

Our recommendation

For security, construction, hospitality, logistics, facilities and similar teams, our recommendation is Managed Zello. Pick Core at $24.95 per user per month for live voice, unlimited channels, location, texts and photos, and the Management Console. Pick Plus at $34.95 when you want AI Digests, Transcription, Translations, Message Vault search and export, breadcrumb history and Emergency Alerts with location, which do not replace 911 or code-required life-safety systems.

There is no minimum and no lock-in. Request a quote and we will begin with a free coverage check of the sites you operate.

FAQ

How much does ESChat cost?

ESChat lists $5.99 per user per month for commercial cloud, or $64.69 per user per year. Historical location tracking adds $2 per user per month, and government hosting and radio links are priced separately.

Why does Managed Zello cost more than ESChat?

The two prices cover different things. Managed Zello includes a multi-carrier SIM and data plan, enterprise MDM and administration by Integrated Radio, while ESChat’s list price covers the service itself.

Is ESChat good for private businesses?

It can be. ESChat sells to business customers as well as agencies, and its price is low. We think it fits best when the business has its own device plans, device management and an admin to run it.

Does Zello work with P25 radios?

Zello Work connects to traditional radios through a radio gateway, scoped per site and quoted separately. If you need standards-based P25 ISSI wireline links, ESChat publishes that option and pricing.

What security certifications does Zello hold?

Zello holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 and is GDPR compliant. If your contract calls for FedRAMP, GovRAMP or TX-RAMP, ESChat publishes those designations.
