Managed Zello vs TASSTA: which push-to-talk fits your team?
TASSTA is a mission-critical platform you deploy. Managed Zello is Zello Work run for you, with MDM, SIM and data included. Here’s how to choose.
Integrated Radio Team
·

Managed Zello vs TASSTA comes down to who you want running your push-to-talk. TASSTA is a German mission-critical platform built for public safety, transport and utilities, and you deploy it on your own servers, in a private cloud or in TASSTA’s cloud. Managed Zello is Zello Work fully managed by Integrated Radio, with full enterprise MDM on every device and multi-carrier LTE coverage, SIM and data plan included. For a US security, construction, hospitality or logistics team that wants radios working without adding a communications system to someone’s job, we think Managed Zello is the better choice. We sell Managed Zello, so weigh that as you read.

TASSTA is two product families
Start here, because it shapes any quote you get. The family featured across its site is T.Flex on the handset, T.Rodon for dispatchers, T.Commander for admin and T.Lion as the server. TASSTA also has a 3GPP mission-critical line, which it renamed from T.Quasar to T.XON in October 2026, with its own client (T.Star), dispatcher (T.Galaxy), admin center (T.Admin), recorder (T.Writer) and radio gateway (T.Gravity).
That depth is real, and it tells you who the product is aimed at. Its home page leads with police, fire, airports and public transport. If your day involves guard posts, job sites or a hotel floor, ask which family you’re being quoted and why you would need it.
Who does the setup and the admin
This is the biggest difference. TASSTA’s deployment page says that with on-premises, your organization manages the entire environment. Its cloud option removes the need for much of the server work. Either way, T.Commander is where someone adds users, builds groups, sets rules for who can reach what and maintains the client apps. It’s a capable panel with bulk tools, QR-code login and role-based admin. Somebody on your side, or at a partner, still has to own it.
With Managed Zello, that someone is us. Channel design and setup, user provisioning and naming standards, roles and permissions, moves, adds and changes, and ongoing administration are in every plan. When a guard quits on Friday, you send us a note. Nobody on your side has to become a system administrator to keep the radios useful. Here’s how the service works.
MDM and control of the device
TASSTA’s admin tools can force-install a new app version when a device next connects, and T.Rodon can trigger remote actions on a handset. A separate device management product is not published on its website, so ask how you would lock devices down, map buttons and wipe a lost unit.
Every Managed Zello plan includes enterprise MDM: enrollment and policies, app controls and Wi-Fi configuration, the push-to-talk key mapped per device, and remote lock, wipe and locate. Devices arrive charged, labeled and signed in to Zello with your channels. Your supervisor hands them out.
Coverage, SIMs and carriers
TASSTA runs over IP networks, and that’s a fair strength. It also means carrier selection and data plans sit outside the product as described on its site. SIM and data bundles are not published, so budget for your own lines or ask a partner.
Managed Zello includes a multi-carrier SIM and data plan, with activation and management handled for you. Coverage depends on the sites you operate, so every quote starts with a free coverage check. No one should promise you coverage everywhere, and we won’t. Our piece on what “nationwide coverage” actually means explains what to check.
Devices
TASSTA’s stated model is bring your own device. Its compatibility list runs to 178 entries, and it notes that testing covers core functions: the PTT button, the emergency button and, on some models, the volume knob. T.Flex also lets several users share one device across shifts, which is useful for crews.
We sell radios and rugged phones from Inrico, Telox, Sonim and Samsung, or we enroll compatible devices you already own. Hardware is sold separately, so you’re never tied to one model.
Dispatch
T.Rodon is a serious console. It handles group and individual calls, priority takeover, maps, indoor positioning, guard tours, task management and recording, on Windows or iPad. If your control room runs tours and incidents from one screen, look closely at it.
Zello Dispatch Hub is simpler and priced in the open at $19.95 per dispatcher per month on either plan. It’s a desktop app for PC and Mac with a shared call queue and dispatch analytics. Transcription and Emergency Alerts need Plus, and Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems.
Radios you already own
T.Bridge connects TASSTA to radio networks, with listed support for Sepura, Hytera DMR, Kenwood NEXEDGE and P25, MOTOTRBO and JPS gateways, plus analog through T.Bridge 4Wire. TASSTA’s FAQ describes a donor radio wired to a Windows PC running the bridge software, with capacity set by your T.Bridge licenses.
Managed Zello bridges to traditional radios through a radio gateway, scoped per site and quoted separately. Both approaches need a site visit’s worth of thought, so ask each vendor who designs it and who looks after it.
Buying TASSTA in the US
You can buy it here. TASSTA lists a TASSTA Americas office in Miramar, Florida, and says it has 70 partners worldwide. Exloc Instruments USA lists TASSTA as quote only. A 2021 release also paired TASSTA with CTS private LTE and 5G networks for the US market, though that’s an older announcement.
We found no public price on TASSTA’s site or at the US seller we checked. Expect a demo, a scoping talk and a quote, which is normal for this class of system. Managed Zello’s pricing is public.
When TASSTA might fit better
TASSTA is the stronger candidate in several real situations:
You’re a public safety agency or critical operator that needs 3GPP MCX services. Zello is not a replacement for a public-safety primary radio system.
Policy requires on-premises hosting and you have the IT staff to run it. On-premise on the Zello side is Zello Enterprise, available on request, and not in Core or Plus.
Push-to-video, indoor positioning or built-in guard tours are daily needs. These aren’t on the Core and Plus feature lists we sell from.
You run private LTE or 5G and want the push-to-talk layer to live on it.
Our recommendation
For most US operations teams buying push-to-talk now, our recommendation is Managed Zello. You get Zello Work fully managed by Integrated Radio, full enterprise MDM on every device, and multi-carrier LTE coverage with SIM and data plan included. There’s no minimum and no lock-in.
Choose Core at $24.95 per user per month if you need live voice, channels, texts, photos, real-time location and a private network. Choose Plus at $34.95 if you also need Message Vault, Transcription, Translations, AI Digests, breadcrumb history or Emergency Alerts with location. Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems. The Core vs Plus guide goes deeper.
On rugged smartphones only, Managed Zello plus Unlimited Talk, Text & Data is $64.95 with Core and $74.95 with Plus. Request a quote and we’ll start with a free coverage check of your sites.
FAQ
Is TASSTA available in the United States?
Yes. TASSTA lists a TASSTA Americas office in Miramar, Florida, and US seller Exloc Instruments lists it as quote only.
How much does TASSTA cost?
TASSTA’s website does not publish a price, so you’ll need to ask for a quote. Managed Zello is $24.95 or $34.95 per user per month, with hardware separate.
Can TASSTA run on-premise?
Yes. TASSTA offers on-premises, private cloud and TASSTA-managed cloud deployment. Core and Plus do not include on-premise servers, which are part of Zello Enterprise on request.
Does TASSTA include SIM cards and data?
SIM and data plans are not published on TASSTA’s website, so ask when you get a quote. Every Managed Zello plan includes a multi-carrier SIM and data plan.
Can Managed Zello replace a mission-critical system like TASSTA?
For many commercial teams, we think it covers the daily job. Zello is not a replacement for a public-safety primary radio system, so agencies with that requirement should look at mission-critical platforms.
Does Managed Zello work with our existing two-way radios?
Yes, through a radio gateway that’s scoped per site and quoted separately. We’ll tell you what your site needs during the quote.
