Managed Zello vs WalkieFleet: a service or a server?

WalkieFleet is PoC server software deployed through partners. We recommend Managed Zello to US teams that would rather not run a server or chase a local partner.

Integrated Radio comparison cover: Managed Zello vs WalkieFleet: a service or a server?

Managed Zello vs WalkieFleet is a choice between a service someone runs for you and server software someone has to host. Our recommendation for most US teams is Managed Zello. It is fully managed by Integrated Radio, with full enterprise MDM on every device and multi-carrier LTE coverage, SIM and data plan included. WalkieFleet suits integrators and teams that want their own push-to-talk server, voice and video PTT, and direct DMR links. Integrated Radio sells Managed Zello, so read this as our opinion.

WalkieFleet is a server product, and that shapes everything

Walkie Labs builds the software and leaves delivery to partners. In its words, “We don’t compete with our partners and don’t provide any hosted services ourselves.” Partners can rent out service from their own server, resell and deploy a system, or build on the API. A 10-day demo server lets you try it first.

The server runs on Windows, with a Linux version added in release 5.8. The recommended setup is a Core i5 with 8 GB of RAM and a 500 GB disk. You can add a backup server that replicates networks, users and groups and takes over if the master fails. Release 5.8.4, from July 2026, added cross-server interconnection, and one server can host up to 100 customers.

That is real control, and it comes with a job list. Someone has to install, license, patch, back up and watch that server, and someone gets the call when it stops.

Who does the setup and the admin

With WalkieFleet, that someone is you or your partner. Walkie Labs asks end customers to contact it for their nearest partner, who provides deployment and local support. So your experience depends heavily on which partner you get, and the software vendor does not publish what partners include.

With Managed Zello there is one answer. We handle channel design and setup, user provisioning and naming standards, roles and permissions, moves, adds and changes, and ongoing administration. Devices arrive charged, labeled and signed in to Zello with your channels.

What WalkieFleet does well

Video is the clear difference. WalkieFleet transmits live video with voice, for individuals and groups, and records voice calls to mp3 and video calls to mkv on the server. Video PTT is not part of the Core and Plus feature set we sell, so if it is a must, say so early.

The rest of the list is solid too. It includes a messenger for text, images and files, GPS tracking on Google Maps or OpenStreetMap, over-the-air settings, and emergency and man-down alerts with custom profiles.

Zello Work covers live voice 1:1 and in channels, unlimited channels, texts, photos, and real-time location, status and battery. It adds a private network with encryption and two-factor authentication, and Zello holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. See our push-to-talk over cellular guide if you are new to the category.

MDM, SIMs and coverage

WalkieFleet’s dispatcher can remotely change user configuration settings, which is useful. We did not find a full device management product or a SIM and data plan on its website, so ask your partner about both. It does publish bandwidth figures, 16 to 56 kbit for voice and 512 kbit for video. Run those against your data plan if you intend to use video.

Every Managed Zello plan includes enterprise MDM: enrollment and policies, app controls and Wi-Fi configuration, a push-to-talk key mapped per device, and remote lock, wipe and locate. The multi-carrier SIM and data plan comes activated and managed.

FCC data shows 99.6% of Americans live where at least one mobile network offers 4G LTE (FCC 2024 Communications Marketplace Report). Coverage still depends on the sites you operate, so every quote starts with a free coverage check. Here is what nationwide coverage actually means.

Devices

WalkieFleet runs on Android and iOS and publishes a list of supported PoC devices from Telo, Hytera, Caltta, Estalky, Boxchip, Inrico, Talkpod and Sonim. Several listed models are older, and it invites questions about any device not shown.

Our store carries the Inrico T640A, T522A, S380 and TM-7Plus, the Telox TE320 and M3, the Sonim XP5plus and XP Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro. Radios start at $199, or you can enroll compatible devices you own.

Dispatch and interoperability

WalkieFleet’s console is a strong fit for guard and fleet operations. It lists geofencing, guard tour, dynamic groups, location history, reporting and several simultaneous calls. It runs as a Windows application.

Zello Dispatch Hub is a desktop app for PC and Mac with a shared call queue and dispatch analytics on both plans. Transcription and Emergency Alerts need Plus. Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems, and Zello is not a replacement for a public-safety primary radio system.

On radios, WalkieFleet goes deep on DMR. An AIS gateway connects multiple DMR networks, with voice, text, radio check and location between DMR radios and mobile users. Zello Work uses a radio gateway to traditional radios, scoped per site and quoted separately.

Buying WalkieFleet in the US

WalkieFleet publishes no price list. Its how-to-buy page sends resellers and end customers to a sales form. Its news page names partners in many countries, including a Canadian partner and an older North American announcement, and we could not confirm a current US partner from the website. Software is current, with downloads dated July 2026.

Your total cost will include licenses, a server or a partner’s hosting, SIMs and data, device management, and someone’s time. Get those on one page before comparing it with Managed Zello at $24.95 or $34.95 per user per month. Hardware is separate, with no minimum and no lock-in.

When WalkieFleet might fit better

  • You want the server on your own network, under your own IT team. On Zello, on-premise servers are Zello Enterprise, available on request, and are not in Core or Plus.

  • You run DMR repeaters and want direct integration with DMR subscribers.

  • Video PTT is a daily requirement.

  • You are a radio dealer or integrator who wants to run a branded, multi-customer service.

Our recommendation

If you want push-to-talk working without owning a server, we recommend Managed Zello. Choose Core at $24.95 per user per month for live voice, channels, messaging, location and the Management Console. Choose Plus at $34.95 if you also need AI Digests, transcription, translations, the Message Vault archive, Emergency Alerts or breadcrumb history. Emergency Alerts are not a substitute for 911 or code-required life-safety systems. Add Dispatch Hub at $19.95 per dispatcher per month on either plan.

We could not confirm a current US partner from its website. Its how-to-buy page offers a contact form, so ask Walkie Labs to name a US partner.
